Christmas at the Birmingham Back to Backs

In 2023 we invite you to get into the festive spirit with a trip back in time this Christmas at the Back to Backs. We'll be decking the court with festive decorations, hand-made by our lovely volunteers, holding a Carols in the Courtyard event and we'll have lots of sustainable gift ideas in our second-hand bookshop.
Guided tours
Step back in Christmas-time at the Birmingham Back to Backs this year. Each of the Christian houses will be festooned with decorations in this year’s theme – a ‘Fashionable Christmas’. Our theme takes inspiration from George Saunders, a master tailor who worked at the Back to Backs on Hurst Street, and our current exhibition in partnership with BCU - where fashion students took George’s patterns, unused for more than 20 years, and created new garments.
Based on the designs created Sarah Moore, from the Garment Technology department at BCU, all the decorations you’ll see in our houses are hand-made; either by our wonderful volunteers or by Sarah. Making a visit this Christmas even more special - and the perfect reason to come back for another visit, or even start a new Christmas tradition.

Buy a sustainable Christmas gift
Second-hand books are the gift that keeps on giving. If you're looking to reduce your environmental impact this Christmas, buy some gifts from Court 15 Books. Second-hand books make great Secret Santa presents and we have lots of children's and young adult books in excellent condition.
