Accessibility at Wightwick

We believe Wightwick should be open and accessible for all. We know though that our historic house and gardens can pose some challenges. Read more to discover how you can best access this special place and full information on accessibility for those with disabilities or additional access needs.
Our access statement
We're passionate about making wightwick accessible to all needs and disabilities. Our Access statement gives more detailed information about our facilities. We are constantly making improvements and will keep this information updated. We’d also love to hear from you on suggestions for things that would make your visit easier.
Making your visit easier
For your visit to Wigtwick you will find:
- Assistance dogs – Assistance dogs are welcome across all areas of Wightwick including the gardens, house, tearoom, gallery and shop. Wightwick is a one pawprint rated place, so other dogs are also welcome here, but facilities are limited. They’ll be able to stretch their legs in the car park and walk in the nearby gardens. Water bowls can be found by Reception and the Tearoom, and we have adog first aid kit available.
- Braille Guides - Braille guides of the Manor are available at the front door on request.
- Eating and drinking – Large handled cutlery, seats with arm rests, picnic benches with spaces for mobility vehicles and wheelchairs. The tearoom has step-free, level access via a power-assisted door at the end of the courtyard.
- Hearing impairment – Induction loops are available in all our front facing spaces.
- Lift - There is lift access to the first floor of De Morgan Gallery, but there is no lift access inside Manor.
- Parking – there is ample parking in the main car park, which also offers 8 Blue Badge parking spaces close to the Visitor Reception.
- Powered mobility vehicle available - A volunteer-driven buggy is available on request to take visitors up the path from car park to the main house.
- Seating - There is seating throughout the Manor marked by 'cat cushions'. An accessible map of gardens is available from Visitor Reception which shows the seating areas in the gardens.
- Stepped access – Our Visitor Reception, tearoom and accessible toilets are all level access. The main house has stepped entrances with ramps available. There is level access to shop, but one area inside the shop is only accessible via a single step.
- Surfaces and terrain – The gardens can be accessed by gravelled routes and grass pathways. Please be aware of uneven surfaces and variable terrain. There are slopes, some steps, grass paths to navigate in the wider grounds.
- Toilets – There is an accessible toilet in car park and next to the tearoom.
- Virtual Tour - A touch-screen, virtual tour with narration is available inside the Manor.
- Wheelchairs – Manual wheelchairs available to borrow on arrival. Please note, shopping type scooters are not permitted in the Manor or Gallery, electric wheelchairs only in these spaces please.

Mobility Vehicles
Wightwick spreads over 17 acres, and we know for some visitors a little extra help is needed to allow them to explore the whole site. We have a range of equipment that can help visitors enjoy the entire site.
Wheelchairs
We have two standard wheelchairs to borrow while on site. The standard wheelchairs can be either self-propelled or pushed by a companion.
Buggy transfer vehicle
We have a standard 4-seater buggy to transfer visitors from the main visitor reception area up to near the Manor and other facilites. It is operated by staff/volunteers upon request.
Due to the size of the site, while we will try and accommodate on the day bookings for wheelchairs, this may not always be possible. Use of all these vehicles is free, though donations are gratefully received to help with the maintenance and up-keep.
We are continually looking at improving our accessibility at Wightwick and welcome feedback wherever possible. Please email wightwickmanor@nationaltrust.org.uk with your comments and suggestions.
