Free Outdoor Family Trail - History of Christmas Decorations
Discover the stories behind Christmas decorating traditions at Wightwick Manor and Gardens.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This festive season, follow our family-friendly Christmas Decorations Trail through the winter gardens and uncover the surprising histories behind the items we hang, light, bake and pull each year.
Learn how Christmas crackers began with a bang in Victorian London, why Prince Albert helped popularise the Christmas tree, where gingerbread houses first appeared, and how holly, mistletoe and wreaths became symbols of hope and celebration.
Packed with fun activities, puzzles and festive moments, this enchanting trail is perfect for all ages and a delightful way to step into the stories of Christmas.
This self-led trail is free to take part in, normal admission costs apply.
The trail takes place along the main garden paths or near the main buildings, so even if it is a bit wet, you should be able to follow the route comfortably. Please note that the route is mainly step-free, but there is a path on an incline to get to the Kitchen Garden section, and one step down to the Undercroft activity. Dogs on leads are welcome on the trail.
