Spring Workshop - Willow Weaving (Swallow)
Join local willow weaver Catherine Tregaskes to create your own swallow out of willow.
- Booking essential
This spring, Wimpole is hosting a selection of creative workshops.
In this 3-hour session you will follow the guidance of local weaver Catherine Tregaskes to weave a willow swallow.
Located on the lawn in front of the Old Rectory Restaurant, this session aims for you to connect with nature through creativity.
No qualifications are required, however you do need reasonable dexterity and good strength in your hands in order to be able to manipulate the willow. Willow weaving is unfortunately not suitable for people with arthritis or other painful conditions in their hands. Please let me know if you are hard of hearing, so I can ensure you hear everything you need to fully participate in the course.
Willow is a natural material and has been stored in a garage and soaked in an outdoor tank. Please wear older clothes (eg gardening clothes) to the course or bring an apron. Solid shoes please (no sandals). Wash hands before eating after handling the willow.
Catherine Tregaskes has been working as a basket maker with willow for more than 16 years and runs basketry demonstrations at events, as well as teaching a variety of courses with willow, rush and soft basketry materials. See more at www.catherinesbaskets.co.uk
The workshop will take place an approximate 10 minute walk from the Visitor Centre, please factor in additional time to arrive at the workshop on time.
