On 11th July 2024 we held our Symposium, entitled ‘Female Craft and Design in the Eighteenth and Early Nineteenth Centuries’. Held at Reed Hall, University of Exeter, we invited a wide range of people to share stories about A la Ronde and how it connects to the wider world. This paper'Taj Mahal Palace Complex in Princely Bhopal: Nawab Shahjahan Begum's 19th Century Royal Residence in Colonial India' was presented by Saniya Siddiqui, as part of the panel 'Female-Designed and Commissioned Domestic Spaces'.

Biography: Saniya Siddiqui
Saniya Siddiqui is a PhD Research Scholar at the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, specializing in Architectural and Urban History.
A Gold Medalist in M. Arch (Ekistics) from Jamia Millia Islamia, her doctoral research examines gendered patronage, built heritage, and cultural landscapes in colonial South Asia, with a focus on Shahjahan Begum's architectural contributions in Bhopal.
With over a decade of academic and professional experience, Saniya combines historical inquiry with a critical gendered lens to advance inclusive narratives in architectural history.
