A la Ronde's distinctive 16-sided house and picturesque gardens offer a fascinating day out on the Exe Estuary. While the historic nature of the property means some areas can be more challenging to access, there are a range of facilities and support available to help visitors make the most of their visit.

Designated Parking

Accessible parking is available in the main car park, with two designated spaces for Blue Badge holders.

Drop-off Point

A drop-off point is available next to Visitor Reception. For visitors with mobility needs, the wooden gates can be opened by arrangement with the Visitor Welcome team to allow drop-off closer to the house. Vehicles must then return to the main car park.

Free Wheelchair Hire

Manual wheelchairs are available to borrow for use both indoors and outdoors during your visit. Please speak to the Visitor Welcome team on arrival for assistance.

Accessible Routes and Paths

The house entrance offers level access, making the ground floor accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility.

Across the wider site, pathways include a mixture of turf, asphalt, compacted gravel and plastic-grid walkways. Ground conditions can be uneven in places, particularly in the gardens and grounds. An accessible path is available through the meadow.

Shop and Refreshments

The second-hand bookshop has step-free access, and a ramp is available for the bookshop annex when required. Staff are happy to assist visitors who need support accessing these areas.

Food and drink facilities can be reached via level access routes across the site.

Quieter Moments

For visitors seeking a more relaxed experience, the gardens provide opportunities to enjoy nature and the peaceful surroundings of this unique coastal property. The meadow and garden spaces can offer quieter areas away from busier visitor routes.

Hearing and Visual Support

Induction loops are available in the Barn Bookshop and the Visitor Welcome Hut. A portable hearing loop is available for visitors taking part in a guided estate tour. To support visitors with visual impairments, both large print and Braille guides to the house are available.

Seating

Seating is available throughout the house and around the gardens, offering plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the surroundings at your own pace.

Virtual Tour

Due to the historic nature of the house and the limitations of the upper floors, some areas may not be accessible to all visitors. A virtual tour of A la Ronde's famous Shell Gallery is available, allowing visitors to explore this remarkable space digitally.
