Your accessible visit to Knightshayes

Enjoy an accessible visit to Knightshayes, where you’ll find wide paths through extensive serene gardens, a friendly shuttle buggy service, and a single-level approach to facilities and eateries.
Designated Parking
The lower area of the main car park is available for accessible parking with designated bays for Blue Badge holders.
Free Wheelchair hire
Knightshayes Court has a collection of wheelchairs available for hire, including all-terrain wheelchairs. Whether you’re a comfortable and experienced user or you’ve never used a wheelchair before during a day out, our friendly Visitor Welcome Team will be on hand to help.
Despite there being availability most days, we recommend advance booking to avoid disappointment. Call Knightshayes Visitor Reception on 01884 257381 to book.
Shuttle Buggy
The Shuttle Buggy transports visitors from outside Visitor Reception near the Accessible Parking to a drop-off point at the entrance to the house. The journey also encompasses a beautiful view of the parkland and passes some of Knighthayes’ historic buildings. Look out for the Stables and the Walled Kitchen Garden.
Supported by a group of Knightshayes’ dedicated volunteers, the shuttle buggy is dependent on their availability and is free for everyone to use. If you require the buggy during your day out at Knightshayes, please call ahead to check it is running.
Accessible Routes and Paths
The Visitor Reception, Stables Café picnic area, and gift shop have step-free level access with some cobbled areas.
The Formal & Woodland garden is partly accessible, with hard surfaced step-free path around much of it. Please be aware of slopes, gravel paths and steps down to the terraces.
The suggested accessible route is marked with an orange line on the visitor map. The parkland paths are accessible in places during the drier months of the year, but certain areas become muddy during the wetter months.
Quieter moments
Popular with walkers, families and those looking for connection with nature, some days can be busier times at Knightshayes. If you’re searching for a quieter space to connect with nature, history or yourself, the Pool Garden or the South Garden are havens of calm.
Bank holidays and school holidays are always busier days but can be quieter early in the day or later in the afternoon.
Sensory bags are available at Visitor Reception.
Hearing Loops
Hearing loops are fitted at all tills.
Seating and picnics
Seating is provided across the park and gardens. There are benches throughout the gardens, on the walk between the stables and the house. In the café you’ll find a mixture of chairs and benches with and without arms. Within the house there are chairs available, most without arms. Please ask a volunteer to point out the chairs that can be used.
The cafe and restaurant are the ideal spots to enjoy fresh food and drink - from hot lunches to coffee and cake. There are wide access points to the till and through the seating area.
Picnics are welcome at Knightshayes. Borrow a rug and enjoy a picnic on one of the flat lawns or in front of the Stables.
Knightshayes House
The ground floor of the Victorian house is step-free and accessible to wheelchairs. The upper floor of the house is accessed via stairs. A photo album ‘virtual tour’ is provided for visitors not able to use the stairs.
Facilities and toilets
The estate offers adapted toilet for wheelchair users, which can be found next to the Stables Café and at the main House forecourt, opposite the entrance.
Baby changing facilities can be found at the Visitor Centre and at the main House toilets.
