The house at Overbeck’s is currently closed so that we can carry out essential repairs and maintenance and protect the building for the future.

Works to the house

Since the pandemic, a considerable programme of work has begun to preserve the building. This includes stabilising the Belvedere Tower, repairs to the roof and chimneys, replacing guttering and drainpipes, asbestos removal and the installation of new toilets for visitors.

Major structural repairs to the house are now largely complete, and the ground floor has been restored. Further investigation and restoration are still required on the south and west sections of the roof, as well as the upper floor exteriors. As a result, the house will remain closed for the foreseeable future, with repair work continuing throughout 2026 and 2027.

The gardens remain open from March until October. This winter, the garden team have been working on new areas of planting and path works to improve and vary the experience for visitors.

The collection

The collection remains in the house and a team of specialists are working to discover more about the items and their provenance. Alongside our Collection and House team, our volunteers are helping to care for the collection which includes monitoring the environmental factors such as light, humidity and pests.

The garden

The sub-tropical garden is open as usual from March to October. Overbeck’s Garden team continue to work on developing the planting and creating new features that improve and vary the experience for visitors.

Thank you. With your ongoing support, we're able to continue this vital conservation work at Overbeck's.
