Did you know that Saltram was once the set of a blockbuster film? This summer, step into the spotlight at the National Trust’s Saltram in Plymouth and enjoy a blockbuster day out with Summer of Play: Saltram on Screen. Saltram’s garden will be transformed into a playful celebration of all things performance, imagination and adventure – perfect for young creatives, budding films stars or movie makers, and families ready to make magical memories in the summer sunshine.

What play activities will there be?

A stage set for imagination
Saltram was once the filming location for the Oscar-winning Sense and Sensibility and in celebration of the film’s 30th anniversary, families can dress up in Georgian costumes and step into their own scene-stealing moment on Saltram’s very own garden stage. Fancy writing and performing your own mini-play? Now’s your chance!

Time to get creative
From storyboarding and sketching to making your own movie soundtrack, drop-in creative workshops will run weekly throughout the summer holidays. Expect crafting, music-making and hands-on fun designed to spark imaginations of all ages.

Build your own film set
In the loose parts zone, anything goes. Children can design and build their dream film sets using giant blocks and natural materials in an area designed for imaginative, free play.

Take five in the quiet zone
Relax under the trees in Saltram’s chill-out canopy zone – complete with books, blankets and puzzles. The perfect place to recharge or dive into a good story.

Wild Wednesdays return
Nature lovers, rejoice! Our popular Wild Wednesdays are back on selected dates, offering pre-bookable sessions packed with outdoor adventure, hands-on nature activities and even more ways to explore Saltram.

Drop-in fun for the whole family
Every day offers a chance to get stuck in together. From performance workshops to outdoor sports games and family crafting, there’ll be plenty of drop-in sessions to keep everyone entertained.

Whether you want to dress up, play it cool in the shade or get hands-on with nature, Summer of Play at Saltram promises to be an unmissable highlight of the summer holidays.
