Water vole habitat creation at Woolacombe
Join us for a water vole habitat creation day at Woolacombe, learn traditional scything techniques to clear long grass, then help plant key food species and sow wildflower seeds to create the perfect habitat.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Be part of an exciting conservation project as we get ready to welcome water voles back to Woolacombe.
Once a common sight along our waterways, water voles have disappeared from up to 90% of their former habitats. With none currently living in North Devon, the National Trust and Citizen Zoo are working together to change that. Water voles are incredible ecosystem engineers, helping to shape their environment and improving the habitat for other species.
During this hands-on session, you’ll learn traditional scything techniques to clear long grass, then help plant key food species and sow wildflower seeds to create the perfect habitat. It’s all part of our mission to give water voles the best possible start when we reintroduce them next spring.
No experience needed, just enthusiasm! Come along, learn new skills, and discover more about the UK’s most threatened mammals.
