Access for all at Kingston Lacy

We are making major upgrades to the car park, toilets and welcome building in 2024-25. Kingston Lacy will remain fully open during the project; there will be some disruption so please bear with us, but at the end the property will be more accessible, have better facilities and be even more memorable.

Basic facilities from car parking to toilets can make or break your enjoyment of a place. Here at Kingston Lacy, we want to improve what’s on offer to ensure your visit is smooth, welcoming and has the right facilities for everyone from wheelchair users to families. So we will be carrying out major works in 2024-25.

What work will we do?

The project will increase the number of disabled parking bays and improve drainage in the car park, as well as improving the overflow car park so we can cope better with peaks in visitor numbers. A new welcome building will reduce queuing as you come into the property, and we'll be regrading the incline from the car park so it’s easier for those with reduced mobility.

Also in the project is a new changing room facility (including adult changing), toilets with better provision for wheelchair and buggy users, and a quiet room for those who need a moment of calm. The main toilet block will be revamped with a new layout and a new look that echoes the building’s original use as an engine room for an early electricity generator.

When will this happen?

We have been granted planning permission and works have begun. We hope to complete the project by the end of 2025, and have made careful plans so Kingston Lacy can remain fully open throughout.

What does this mean for my visit?

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to ensure Kingston Lacy stays open for everyone throughout the upgrade. We’ll do all we can to minimise the disruption, but inevitably there’ll be necessary changes to visitor routes, and some areas may be unaccessible.

Please bear with us while this work is going on. Look out for signs explaining what we’re doing, and of course staff will be able to answer any questions. This project will improve everyone’s experience of Kingston Lacy and make it easier for you to enjoy your visit for years to come.
