Tree Planting at Lodge Park

Join us for tree planting in the Charles Bridgeman landscape at Lodge Park and help us in the next steps of this exciting restoration project.

  • Booking essential
  • Free event

The Charles Bridgeman landscape at Lodge Park is a Grade I listed landscape, designed in the 1720s for Sir John Dutton. Thanks to National Grid investment we have been restoring these designs.

On the 27th March, we will be planting trees for this design, including field maple, hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel and rowan - this is your opportunity to play your part in this restoration project. We are returning focussing on “woodland blocks” which were first planted with native trees in 2023. Over time a proportion of the trees planted within these blocks have not survived and we are inviting you to help us to replenish them by filling gaps with new trees. We will be planting small, cell grown whips using a planting tube or spade before installing a stake and a tree tube to protect the tree from voles. This involves the use of a post knocker to install the stakes and saws to cut tree tubes down to size.

This is a hands-on activity, expect to get dirty and dress for the weather.
