Conservation cleaning at Mottisfont

Come and watch as our House team carry out Mottisfont's annual conservation clean. With scaffolding towers, backpack vacuum cleaners and a vast array of different brushes, this is not your average spring clean.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Our House team are always caring for Mottisfont's rooms and collection, but this season see them step into full conservation mode as they take on the annual deep clean. Armed with backpack vacuums and an impressive array of specialist brushes, the team will be scaling ladders and scaffolding towers to give the historic rooms meticulous top‑to‑bottom care. It’s a rare chance to witness this behind‑the‑scenes work up close. Watch as they gently dust and vacuum hundreds of treasures, from delicate cornicing and glittering chandeliers to gilded mirrors and the vast, theatrical mock‑ermine curtains of the Whistler Room.

During this period, for safety reasons, the rooms being cleaned will be viewable from the doorway only and some rooms may be briefly closed. Cleaning will take place between 11am and 1pm but staff may not be working in the rooms continuously.
