Take a behind the scenes look at Winchester City Mill and discover more about the historic workings of the Mill, the River Itchen and our exciting Waterwheel Replacement Project.

Spaces are limited to 10 people per tour, so advance booking is strongly recommended. This special experience offers visitors the opportunity to go down into the Mill Race and get up close to the new waterwheel, with a member of the Mill team on hand to share the story of the project and how the wheel works.

Accessibility

This experience involves stairway access into the Mill Race and takes place in an operational heritage environment. The surface may be uneven and potentially wet or slippery, and visitors will need to follow instructions from the Mill team. Please contact the Mill in advance if you have any accessibility requirements so we can discuss whether the experience is suitable for you.

Meeting point

Please meet at the main entrance to Winchester City Mill 10 minutes before the start of your tour.

Suitability for children

Children welcome.

What to bring and wear

Suitable, sturdy footwear is advised. Hard hats and high-visibility vests will be provided and must be worn for the duration of the experience.
