Conservation open days introductory talks 6 May

On open days, one of our experienced and friendly volunteers will give a free short introductory talk on the history of Sir Herbert Baker and his sometimes controversial relationship with the Bank of England.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Come and enjoy a free short talk on the history of Sir Herbert Baker at his birthplace, Owletts. The collection you will see, and many of the rooms too, bear the hallmarks of Sir Herbert's influence. In the talk, you'll hear how his relationship with fellow architect Edward Lutyens influenced many of his designs in India and how the relationship soured. You'll also hear about his fascinating connection with the Bank of England and how the changes Baker made to Sir John Sloane's original building damaged his reputation.
