Taste of Townend
Experience living history and learn about food recreated from the 17th century family recipe book.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Every Thursday between 12–3pm, you can discover the delights of the Browne’s family recipe book, dating back to the 17th century. One of our volunteers in period costume will be on hand to chat about the recipes.
The food created by our living history team is for display only and sadly can’t be tasted. *Please note: we have real food on display containing nuts and flour.*
Three years before marrying 'Old' Ben Browne, Elizabeth Birkett compiled a 57-page book with recipes for food, medicine, and household cleaning. This book highlights sophisticated tastes alongside rural traditions and superstitions.
Learn more on Thursday’s Guided Tour, 3-4pm - this must be booked in advance.
