Field ID of Spiders Wed 13 May, 10am - 4pm

Curious about spiders but not sure where to start? Join this friendly, hands-on introduction to identifying live spiders in the field, led at Morden Hall Park.

  • Booking not needed

There are around 680 species of spider known in the UK, and it can be hard to know where to start when trying to identify them!

This is a one-day introduction to identifying live spiders in the field. This will include identifying some distinctive species, as well as beginning to recognise some spider families. The morning will be spent on several hours of classroom teaching, followed by opportunity in the afternoon to put this into practice finding and identifying spiders around Morden Hall Park.

No previous experience is needed, and participants do not need to bring anything other than notebook, pen and lunch! If you have a hand lens or any spider identification guides, please do bring these along, but we will have some to lend out too.

This a term-time weekday event, designed with adults in mind, but if you are/ have an under 18 year old interested in taking part, please do get in touch for further information.

The park is mostly flat, and the study room is on the ground floor with an accessible toilet. Since this is a fieldwork day some of spider collecting may be on uneven/wet ground. Please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Assistance dogs only.
