Taxidermy conservation in action

Watch conservators at work caring for Felbrigg's collection of taxidermy birds and their cases.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

This year, as part of essential conservation work, some of the dioramas that line Felbrigg Hall's aptly named 'Bird Corridor' are being cleaned to protect them for the future.

Come and see conservator Felicity from the National Trust's Royal Oak Conservation Studio and freelance conservator Michael in action as they care for taxidermy birds and the glass-cased reproductions of natural scenes that house them.

These dioramas are an important part of Felbrigg Hall's natural history collection. Acting as a valuable record of the birds of North Norfolk in the 19th century, they also allow us to compare how species populations and habitats have changed.

Please note, you're welcome to ask the conservators any questions you may have but please refrain from taking photos of them working without prior permission.
