Norfolk Coast Path: Temporary diversion at Morston
- Published:
- 25 August 2026

From August to October 2026, the Environment Agency is carrying out essential repairs and reconstruction works to a stretch of the embankment at Morston.
These embankments are vital flood defences that help protect local people, homes and environmentally sensitive sites from tidal surges and flooding.
Whilst this work is being carried out, a temporary diversion will be in place for a section of the Norfolk Coast Path between Blakeney and Morston Quay.
During the initial phase of work, visitors will not need to leave the main footpath.
During the second stage of work, walkers will be diverted down the slope, along the adjacent field, before rejoining the footpath (see map below).
Accessibility
This temporary diversion route is not suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, or individuals with limited physical mobility. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this essential flood defence work.
