Durham City in Blossom 2024: Blossom walk - Botanic Garden to Crook Hall Gardens

A walk through the city to appreciate its riverside location, history and architectural heritage.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event

Join local historian David Butler for a guided walk through Durham, linking Durham University’s Botanic Garden and Oriental Museum with Crook Hall Gardens. The walk will take you along the River Wear, looking at the historic bridges of the city and learning how the river was made to work for the city’s inhabitants. You’ll also see the university's architectural heritage at its Lower Mountjoy site, as well as the location of a former coal mine.

The walk is one-way, approximately 2 miles/3.2km, and will take about 2 hours. Please note, you will need to allow time to get back to your starting point. There are car parks and refreshments available at both the start and finish venues.

Free - donations welcome. There's no need to book, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
