Cloud Shrine: a gentle flowing movement and restful sensory immersion class
Feeling burnt out or in need of a mental health boost? Join Madeleine for some mellow moves. Sessions are tailored to suit people with an energy-limiting chronic condition such as M.E. or long COVID.
- Booking essential
- Free event
We understand there are many people who are completely bed-bound with severe M.E., this practice is for those who can leave the house occasionally.
Each soothing session begins with time to get comfortable. An introduction from Madeleine means you'll know exactly what to expect, working within personal boundaries. The pace of every class will factor in the abilities and needs of its attendees e.g. comfort breaks.
The first part of the session begins with 20-30 minutes of gentle flow, with lying down postures, to some sitting/hands and knees for those able to. Finish sitting up or lying down. Expect plenty of pauses and instruction between movements.
Next, the heating will be turned up to keep you comfortable for 40 minutes of horizontal Body Scan Meditation, finishing with a sound bowl before slowly rising.
The session ends with a warm drink and time to pack up and leave without rushing.
The first taster session on Wednesday 22 April is free. Further sessions are £3 per person (tickets will go on sale soon). Booking is essential for each session.
Good to know: The room's air is HEPA filtered to reduce viral pathogen risk. Madeleine will be wearing a mask and welcomes/encourages attendees who want to as well. Carers are welcome, by prior arrangement. It is the responsibility of every attendee to avoid worsening their personal condition through participation in this class.

- Other
"Hi, I’m Madeleine. I’m living with M.E. (MyalgicEncephalomyelitis - post-viral), Fibromyalgia, and symptoms of Long Covid. Since the end of 2008 I’ve been unable to join full classes without suffering the brutal consequences of PEM/PENE (Post Exertional Neuro-Immune Exhaustion). As an ex-dance teacher, and after many years of tailoring my own movement sessions at home, I’m sharing my experience to help others. I've created the Cloud Shrine concept for those able to move a bit without causing deterioration. With double the rest time, very careful slow movement is only a small part of the session. It’s inspired by Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi, alongside my IDTA dance training; utilising movements which flow together with ease. For those without an energy limiting condition, perhaps experiencing burn out, or who need some sanctuary, it’s chance to learn the skill of slowing down, resting and switching off, while tuning into our bodies and minds. All abilities welcome. There’s no judgement or expectation; turning up to lie on the mat is enough!" Find me on Instagram: @cloud.shrine
