Mr Straw’s House inspires new wallpaper design

Available now, In the Garden is Little Greene’s sixth wallpaper collection produced with the National Trust. One of the standout designs, Mr Straw’s Greenhouse, takes its inspiration directly from the modest greenhouse at the end of the garden here at Mr Straw’s House.

From greenhouse to wallpaper

Walter Straw, the son of William Straw Sr and his wife Florence, lived in the house for most of his life. He had a keen interest in succulents and cacti, recording more than 300 varieties in his collection. His carefully tended greenhouse is still home to an ever-changing display of plants, lovingly cared for by the property team. That personal passion has now been transformed into a light-hearted, characterful wallpaper design celebrating everyday gardening and the joy found in small, personal collections.

The In the Garden collection celebrates gardens both grand and humble, drawing inspiration from places cared for by the National Trust. Each design reflects the close relationship between homes and their outdoor spaces, and all patterns have been coloured to pair beautifully with Little Greene paint shades.

A contribution from the sale of every roll of wallpaper supports the National Trust’s work caring for historic places like Mr Straw’s House, helping ensure they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Visitors to the house can discover the real greenhouse that inspired the design and explore the story behind Walter Straw’s lifelong love of plants.
