The Art Within Conservation & Sustainability: Vapour Permeability & Historic Decorative Finishes

31st July. In-Depth, Group Heritage Conservation Course Exploring Vapour Permeability, Sustainability & The Application of Historic Decorative Faux Finishes.

  • Booking essential

This one day course covers the importance of vapour permeability in heritage decorative finishes.

In the morning learn why the SD value matters in conservation followed by a demonstration of Base Paints, Colour & Glaze Mixing. In the afternoon there will be a hands-on Practical Workshop where participants will mix their own breathable paints and custom colours using earth pigments and stainers. Following this there will be a chance to apply traditional decorative paint techniques on prepared test panels to build your physical portfolio. Lastly there will be a discussion on integrating these ancient techniques into modern conservation work within the SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) philosophy and repair framework.

Your tutor is Simon Nobs of South Coast Studio. Simon has been providing a high-quality painting and decorating service for 35+ years to clients across the UK and Europe, more recently focusing on the more artistic side of interior decoration. Simon has designed and created a range of high-quality workshops to teach, red-listed traditional decorative paint techniques.

Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work. All materials and tools required for the course will be provided. This course takes place on Saturday 31 July, 10am-4.30pm. There will be a short break for lunch each day and tea/coffee is provided.
