Strawcraft: Christmas decoration making

Learn fundamentals of the red-list skill of Strawcraft in this one day course. Understand the history and traditions behind common Strawcraft items, such as corn dollies before learning the practical skills, such as plaiting and tied straw work that go into making these items. You'll leave with a selection of different Christmas decorations, including an angel Christmas tree topper.
This course is suitable for beginners, with no prior knowledge of Strawcraft needed. All materials will be provided.
Your tutor for this course is Ian Speechley, Ian has been involved with Strawcraft for many years, with his interest starting at primary school with artstraws. Ian enjoys bringing a contemporary twist to this traditional artform and is keen to show off its potential as a mindful activity.
Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work. All materials and tools required for the course will be provided. This course takes place on Saturday 7 November, 10am-3pm. There will be a short break for lunch each day and tea/coffee is provided.

Toilets on site, including accessible toilet. Level access into the teaching space. Some uneven surfaces such as cobbles due to the historic nature of the building. The Heritage and Rural Skills Centre is located in Coleshill village. Follow signs for the Coleshill Estate Office for the car park and look out for signs directing you to the location of the course.

Suitable for those 12 and over. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- What to bring and wear
All tools and materials included. Wear practical clothes suitable for crafting. Please bring your own refreshments (or the means to purchase these from the on-site café).

Kitchenette available for course participants to use during breaks. Drinking water and facilities for making tea and coffee available. Refreshments/lunches available to purchase from on-site café.
