A number of improvements are being made to Calke's food and beverage offer, so that visitors can continue to enjoy great refreshments, both now and in the future. To allow this work to take place, there will be a short period of change to what's available on site.

Temporary restaurant closure

The restaurant will be closed from Tuesday 24 February until Thursday 26 March.

During this time, you'll still be able to enjoy a selection of food and drink while exploring Calke. At weekends, depending on building works, the restaurant may be open with a limited offer, including hot and cold drinks and a selection of cold snacks.

The café will remain open throughout the works, serving its usual range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes, sausage rolls, pasties and Bluebells ice-cream, as well as soup daily and bacon and sausage cobs in the mornings.

Refreshments will also be available from Calke Explore at weekends, weather permitting. We'll also be opening our smaller outlets where possible, including the coffee trailer and kiosk.

Hot food at weekends

While the restaurant is closed, a hot food concession, Crazi Jalfrezi, will be on hand during weekends. They will be serving a variety of curries, loaded fries, pizzas and wraps, with options to suit all kinds of dietary requirements.

The full menu will be available onsite, but dishes will include a trio of handmade Indian snacks, chicken Tikka Masala, loaded fries with South Indian vegan curry, and a wide choice of toppings to choose from for your pizza. There's sure to be something for everyone!

What improvements are being made?

The works form part of a wider programme to improve food and drink provision at Calke. This includes the construction of a purpose-built production kitchen, alongside enhancements to existing support areas.

These improvements will help ensure consistently high-quality food can be prepared on site, increase the variety of food available, improve working space for staff, and support Calke’s long-term future as visitor numbers continue to grow. They also include improvements to the existing restaurant kitchen and kiosk facilities, as well as the introduction of a new BBQ and ice-cream kiosk to expand the outdoor food offer.
