Ilam Park: Guided Walk: Life and Death in the Valley
A meander through the history of the people who lived in Ilam from the Saxons right through to present day. From the grand, to the religious and the everyday folks who were drawn to the beauty of this wonderful place.
- Booking essential
This guided walk invites you on a journey through the centuries, uncovering the rich tapestry of human lives interwoven with the natural beauty of Ilam Park.
We'll begin by delving into the park's ancient past, exploring evidence of early Saxon settlements and imagining the lives of those who first called this land home. We'll then trace the rise of the influential Watts-Russell family and the Hanburys that came after them.
We'll also explore the religious significance of Ilam, visiting the historic church and contemplating the part that religion played in past and present.
This walk will not only reveal the grandeur of Ilam Park but also the human stories that have shaped its history. It's an invitation to connect with the past, appreciate the present, and understand how the beauty of this place has resonated with people across generations.
Starting at the hall, then the church and village, it is a very easy walk of no more than 0.5 mile.
We grade our guided walks A, B or C depending on how challenging the walk will be. This walk is graded A - a short walk on relatively flat ground.
