Steel Cotton Rail Trail: Edale to Chinley
A moderate guided walk beginning at Edale Station and ending at Chinley Station.
- Booking essential
To celebrate 130 years of the Hope Valley train line passenger service, we are leading a series of guided walks traversing the entire length of the Peak District from Dore to Chinley. Each walk will begin and end at a different train station, exploring the peaks and footpaths that flank England’s most picturesque train line.
The final section is a challenging 8-mile walk beginning at Edale Station and ending at Chinley Station. The route follows the Pennine Way, ascending Jacob’s Ladder onto Kinder Scout, before diverting South onto South Head. The walk then descends into scenic fields for the final stretch into Chinley village.
This walk includes short sections of road, an uneven footpath and a steep ascent and descent. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or prams.
These walks coincide with the launch of High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership’s Steel Cotton Rail Trail. This waymarked trail snakes from Midland Station in the centre of Sheffield to Piccadilly Station in Manchester.
