Lose Hill 80th Anniversary Walk from Hope
A moderate 7-mile circular guided walk celebrating 80 years of Lose Hill being cared for by the National Trust.
- Booking essential
To celebrate 80 years of the National Trust caring for Lose Hill, we are hiking up the much-loved tor via the long approach of the Great Ridge. Along the way, our knowledgeable walk leaders will discuss the story of how Lose Hill came into the Trust's ownership in 1945 and the legacy of GHG Ward, who gives his name to its alternative name 'Ward's Piece'.
Beginning in Hope, the walk passes West through the Hope Valley countryside to Castleton, where it follows Odin Sitch to Odin Mine. From there it ascends the Broken Road and onto the Great Ridge at Hollins Cross, continuing East to Lose Hill trigpoint via Back Tor. After soaking in panoramic views of the Hope Valley and Vale of Edale, the route descends deeply before following farmland footpaths back to Hope.
This walk includes short sections of road, a steep ascent and descent and an uneven footpath. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or prams.
