Join us to celebrate the shared history of Flat Holm, Steep Holm, and Brean Down – three remarkable sites that once formed a unified coastal defence network during the Victorian era and World War II.

Discover the unique heritage, wildlife, and stories of the Bristol Channel Islands through engaging activities, including Interactive stalls exploring the history of Flat Holm and Steep Holm, Insights into the earliest radio messages ever sent over water transmitted from Lavernock Point to Flat Holm and Brean Down. Two guided walks exploring the natural and social history of the area and hands on nature and craft activities for children – perfect for families!
There will also be a special radio message from Lavernock Point and a chance to have a go at transmitting a message using Morse code
Come along for a fascinating journey into the past and enjoy a day of exploration, learning, and outdoor fun!

Fort at Brean Down
- What to bring and wear
Brean Down is exposed to wind and weather, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for conditions on the day.
- Accessibility
it is approximately a 4km round walk to the event site itself at the Fort. We have two trampers available for hire which can be booked via email or telephone.
