Ralph Hoyte: Christabel Released

On 21st October, as dusk falls, join us for a hauntingly atmospheric performance to mark Coleridge’s birthday.

  • Booking essential

Bristol poet Ralph Hoyte breathes new life into Coleridge’s unfinished Gothic ballad, Christabel, which was originally begun here at Coleridge Cottage over 200 years ago.

Hoyte's 'Christabel Released' frees up Coleridge’s protagonists to work out their own fate over an epic 3hr performance, abridged for the occasion to 1hr 45min of truly compelling poetic storytelling.

The performance begins in the garden at twilight, with an interval featuring warming soup, bread, and a hot drink served in the tearoom. The second part continues in the Second Parlour, by the light of the open fire.

Hoyte will also be selling copies of his book after the performance- a perfect way to take the magic home. Booking essential – limited tickets available
