Ickworth Stargazing Night

Look up and be amazed. Spend an evening stargazing with the Norwich Astronomical Society as they guide you across the night sky, revealing planets, constellations and galaxies millions of light-years away.

  • Booking essential

We'll begin with a short, engaging introduction to the celestial objects visible that evening and learn how to spot them for ourselves. As darkness falls, we'll make our way through the grounds to a specially prepared observing area.

From there, you'll spend around two hours discovering the beauty of Suffolk's night skies through a range of telescopes. Using modern smart telescopes, you'll be able to watch images build live on screen, revealing colours, shapes and details far beyond what the eye alone can see.

What might you discover? Saturn and its magnificent rings, now opening up once again after appearing edge-on a few years ago. The Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbour, whose light began its journey to Earth 2.5 million years ago. The Pleiades and Double Cluster, dazzling groups of young stars that sparkle even to the naked eye. The Owl Cluster, a favourite with younger astronomers, whose stars form a charming stick-figure shape. Beautiful nebulae, including the Ring Nebula and Dumbbell Nebula, glowing remnants of dying stars. Albireo, one of the sky's most striking double stars, shining in contrasting gold and blue.

Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or simply curious about the universe above us, this is a unique opportunity to experience the night sky through expert guidance and powerful telescopes.
