We are delighted that Winkworth has been awarded a Level 2 Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Programme for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens.

The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Programme is the only global initiative to officially recognise arboreta at various levels of development, capacity and professionalism.

Winkworth is also now recognised as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.

‘The accreditation is a good step forward for the team at Winkworth. It is recognition of their hard work and passion for a unique and beautiful arboretum. The gardeners and volunteers work hand in hand with the Visitor Experience team who make sure our visitors have a great day out but credit goes to the whole Surrey Landscapes portfolio as nothing can be achieved without all the hard work of every member of staff we are lucky to have.’

Founded in the early 20th century by Dr Wilfrid Fox, a local doctor with a passion for preserving the wooded hillside near his home, Winkworth is home to over 1,000 different species of trees and shrubs, a unique collection. Dr Fox bequeathed it to the National Trust which has maintained his passion for over 60 years.
