World Wildlife Day Walk and Talk
Celebrate World Wildlife Day at Sheffield Park and Garden and support us in looking after the amazing wildlife and plants across our 120-acre garden and 250 acres of parkland.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
The garden and parkland boast a wide variety of habitats and wildlife, from veteran trees, home to bats, and birds such as the lesser spotted woodpecker and little owl, to magnificent lakes, where you’ll see the gentle flutter of a dragonfly whizzing past the waterlilies, a gaggle of geese paddling across the water’s surface or a grey heron wading along the water’s edge.
In Sheffield Wood, a family of badgers have made their home and are carefully monitored through night vision cameras. There is also a bounty of insects such as butterflies and bugs, delicately at work in every corner of the garden.
The dedicated team of gardeners and rangers here are the ever-present stewards of the animals and insects that inhabit Sheffield Park and Garden’s rare plant collections. Across site, various surveys and tracked migration patterns are diligently studied and investigated. This allows us to understand how the wildlife interacts with the garden but also allows us to carefully manage the effects of climate change on the environment. These studies are an integral part of the garden team’s work throughout the year.
All animals on the property are wild, so please respect and give them space.
