February half term at Penrhyn Castle and Garden

Enjoy getting creative this February half term week as you join us in The Stables on 17 and 19 February, 11am until 3pm, for some nature inspired craft activities. You can enjoy making your own bird themed bookmark or a 'hootiful' owl to take home!

Get those wellies on this half term week and go for a walk around the garden and grounds at Penrhyn. Head on over to the adventure playground, Rook Wood, or enjoy a walk down down to Cwt Ogwen.

Craft activities free, normal admission to the garden and grounds apply (free for members).

Celebrate St David's Day with us

Join us on 28 February and 1 March for a weekend celebrating St David’s Day and Welsh culture.

Join us at Penrhyn Castle and Garden on Saturday 28 February at 10am for a historical guided walk with Rhys Mwyn at Porth Penrhyn (booking essential), part of Gŵyl Dewi Bangor.

On the 1 March there will be slate splitting demonstrations with the quarrymen from the National Slate Museum and cooking in the Victorian Kitchens.

Activities are free, normal admission charges apply to visit on Saturday, 28 February.

To enable more people to access our places and enjoy this special day, all our pay‑to‑enter sites will be free to visit on Sunday 1 March, including here at Penrhyn Castle.

Easter adventures at Penrhyn Castle and Garden

Make your way along the trail and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. The trail takes place between 28 March – 12 April, from 10am - 4pm with last event entry for the trail at 3pm, so come along and explore the beautiful garden and estate at Penrhyn Castle.

Prices are £3.50 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg.  

This Easter, embark on a spring adventure with a 10-point nature inspired trail. Celebrating the changing season and the welcome arrival of spring in the Castle garden and estate, the trail celebrates animals, birds and insects, all of which lay eggs in the wild.

The trail is a wonderful opportunity to explore the garden at Penrhyn and complete a series of fun activities for all the family to enjoy. Test your throwing skills with target games, create a buzz at the insect orchestra and put your bird knowledge to the test with our match the egg challenge. It’s an Easter egg-stravaganza for the whole family to yolk about with! Spend time as a family outdoors enjoying nature this Easter and see if you can challenge each other as you go! 

The Easter trail will run from 28 March to 12 April 2026. £3.50 per trail, normal admission to the castle and garden applies. 

*Suitable for people with milk, egg, gluten, peanut and tree nut allergies. 

Planning your family visit

Here’s the information you need at a glance to help plan your next day out at Penrhyn Castle: 

  • Baby-changing facilities are available by the Visitor Welcome Centre, in the kitchen courtyard and in the Barbican archway. 
  • Pushchairs are permitted on the castle's ground floor. At busy times you may be asked to leave these on entry.

Looking for a place to go wild? We have two adventure playgrounds to choose from at Penrhyn Castle ready for your family visit.

Rook Wood

Just beyond the picnic tables near the stables courtyard entrance, you can find our playground in Rook Wood. Head up through the woodland to find the park where you can climb, swing and see-saw to your day away.

Cwt Ogwen

Our natural play area in Cwt Ogwen takes you down to the Ogwen River. Find the wooden archway in the main car park and follow the path down. Discover our hide, a perfect spot to play house, or to sit quietly and take in the sounds and sights of wildlife around you. For the little adventurers, the adventure playground is just up the path, have a go and see who can complete it fastest.
