Special Events

On the first Sunday of the month from around April to September, Tŷ Mawr holds special open day events which explore various different themes - from folklore to music and from history to interactive walks.
What's gone on so far
Each year a new and exiting programme of events is drawn up which gives visitors to Tŷ Mawr a chance to engage with the site in many different ways.
In 2025 an interactive walk on the circular walk around Tŷ Mawr was held with professional actors and storytellers who brought the area's folklore and stories back to life. Participants were invited to listen to the stories of Iwan Serw the drover (Llion Williams), Barbra Fedw Deg the harpist (Mair Tomos Ifans), Siôn Fychan the clog dancer and Nanws a’ch Rhobert (Mirain Fflur).

An event which is quickly becoming a staple of the calendar is the gig on the lawn, where visitors can come and enjoy live acoustic music outside on the grounds whilst enjoying a picnic and the surrounding countryside.
Another event which is also very popular is the historical lecture. Recent lectures have included Prof. Angharad Price discussing Welsh Catholics during the time of William Morgan and Prof. Jerry Hunter's lecture which touched on history, learning and literature during the era of William Morgan.
A whole host of other events have also taken place, from an exhibition by local pupils to an open day with the Turner brothers who renovated Tŷ Mawr during the 1980s.

Keep a lookout for the 2026 open day event programme at Tŷ Mawr so that you don't miss out.
