A resource station can be found in Visitor Reception which includes accessible maps, and free to borrow sensory items. There is an induction loop.
Moving around the site
There is an electric buggy/shuttle vehicle which can pick visitors up from the car park and drop them off at various points around the property. The buggy is not accessible for people who cannot transfer from their wheelchair.
At Visitor Reception you can borrow a manual wheelchair or a mobility vehicle. Pre-booking is advised by calling 01568 615721 during opening hours.
There are level access paths around the garden and park with a mix of tarmac, gravel, bonded gravel and grassy paths. There is an accessible route around the walled garden, with some grassy paths.
There is work currently underway at Berrington Hall to create a new flower garden which will have fully accessible paths throughout. We expect the flower garden to be open to visitors early 2025.
Assistance dogs are welcome across all areas and all dogs must be kept on a lead.
There is an accessible routes map available from Visitor Reception and you can also view it here.
Mobile phone reception is poor and intermittent. The number to call in an emergency is: 07775 908238 or 999 in a medical emergency.
Moving around the house
The house has 12 steep stone steps at the entrance. Alternatively, ask about entrance via the back door, which has 10 stone steps and is slightly easier to climb.
The first floor is only accessible via a flight of carpeted stairs; there are 32 steps, with a banister. If you use a wheelchair and can transfer from it, we ask that you use our wheelchair in the mansion, due to conservation concerns. Wheelchairs cannot be used on the first floor due to conservation and fire safety concerns. The basement is only accessibal via stairs. There is seating in the house.
A resource station which includes large print and braille guides is located in the Marble Hall.
A virtual tour is available in the stables. To book, please call 01568 615721 during opening hours, or speak to a member of staff on arrival.
Facilities
There is an accessible toilet in the main courtyard set within a ‘Changing Place’ with a fitted electronic assistance sink, changing area, adult changing station, powered hoist, child’s changing station emergency alarm and toilet. As well as this there is a unisex accessible toilet in the car park.
The tea-room is in the courtyard, approximately 185 meters from visitor reception. It is accessed via seven stone steps, or there is a lift available on request. It has an induction loop. Ask a member of staff in the tea-room or Visitor Reception for assistance with the lift.
