Open Archives - Walled Garden and Shed Lane
Look behind the scenes with our research and archive volunteers to discover the history of the Walled Garden and Shed Lane.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Open Archives is back this March - come and meet our dedicated team of volunteers as they dig into the archives at Wentworth Castle Gardens.
The Walled Garden provided the family, the servants and estate staff with fruit and vegetables the year round as well as flowers for the house and garden. Care and maintenance of the buildings was focused on Shed Lane, a sawmill for timber, a Blacksmith for iron goods, a Mason’s workshop for stonework, a grinding mill and a paint shop. It must have been a hive of activity. This is your chance to learn about these areas and the fascinating history of this aspect of the estate.
Can you add to our stories about the skilled people who kept the Estate running?
