Family cycling near Monks Lode - Wicken Fen

Explore the reserve on two wheels. Enjoy an easy family ride to see our konik ponies or discover the wider reserve. A map showing cycle routes can be found at the entrance to the Cycle Hire centre. Cycle hire is open for pre-booked slots on Tuesdays and Fridays, find out more here.

Our Cycle Hire is open for pre-booked slots between 10am and 1pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. Bookings are at half hour intervals to maintain a safe visitor flow and cycle hire is for 2 hours from leaving the cycle hire centre.  Payment is by card on arrival at the door of the Cycle Hire centre.

In order to book, please call our friendly cycle hire team between 2-4pm on Tuesday or Friday on 01353 721755 or email an enquiry to wickenfen@nationaltrust.org.uk.  If you email an enquiry, please don't assume it is a firm booking until you receive a confirmation email from us.  You'll need to book in advance to secure your hire and avoid disappointment.

If all the slots have not been booked, there may be availability if you are visiting and have not pre-booked, please call 01353 720274 to check or ask on arrival.  You might have to wait for a slot if you arrive and earlier slots are full.

If you have cycle helmets and wish to wear them, please bring them with you.

We will be operating a cleaning system for cycles before use. Hand sanitiser will be available at Cycle Hire.

Hire Rates

Adult Bike: £9 for 2 hours 

Child Bike: £5.50 for 2 hours 

Adult with child seat: £9.50 for 2 hours 

Trailer / Tag:  £15.50 per 2 hours 

Tandem: £19.15 for 2 hours

Cycle Routes 

Here are a couple of the routes you may like to follow when you visit.  Further information is available from our cycle hire team.

Family Discovery Route

5.6 km  Approximately 1 hour

An easy ride suitable for all. Cycle along Monks Lode, with views across Baker's and Guinea Hall Fens.  Look out for birds, highland cattle and konik ponies. 

 

Wildlife Watching Route

17.7km  Approximately 2 hours

Venture further afield and enjoy the fen wildlife. Visit Tubney Fen and our hide overlooking new & wet grassland habitats on the wider nature reserve. If you go into the hide, please maintain safe social distancing to keep everyone safe. 

Lodes Way out and back route

The Lodes Way cycle route passes through the reserve and is ideal for those looking for a simple out and back route.  Simply cycle out for an hour then turn around and return to the Cycle Hire centre.  Pedal alongside waterways, look out for our herds of highland cattle and konik ponies, and enjoy the big fen skies overhead.
