Lodes Way cycle route, from Wicken Fen (to Anglesey Abbey), Wicken, Ely, Cambridgeshire

The Lodes Way is a 8 mile cycle-way / footpath between Wicken Fen and Anglesey Abbey forming part of the National Cycle-way route. The Cambridgeshire Lodes comprise six historic man-made waterways connecting fen edge villages to the River Cam. Cycles can be hired at the Cycle Hire Centre opposite the Visitor Centre.
Cyclists and walkers share the cycle-way, and horse riders can use the grass track that runs alongside. Expect to meet farm vehicles and other traffic on the road sections.
Wicken Fen Visitor Centre
Follow signs for the National Cycle Route 11 south from the Wicken Fen Visitor Centre, with Wicken Lode waterway on your right.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - follow the route through a sweeping left turn and over a low bridge, turn left after crossing the bridge.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - when the cycle-way divides, take the right fork and then follow the route though a sharp right turn. Ride in a straight line over two cattle grids and pass Priory Farm on your right. Continue until you come to a footbridge which crosses Burwell Lode.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - cross the footbridge and then turn left. Cycle gullies have been fitted to help you carry your bike over.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - a short distance after the footbridge the route bears right, follow the cycleway across Burwell Fen and over a bridge that crosses Reach Lode.
Short-eared Owls can sometimes be seen along the fen.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route passes a picnic area with figures of three fenland characters.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route crosses a track just after the picnic area, continue straight ahead -this part of the route can get muddy - especially in the winter.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - go straight on at the crossroads onto a quiet road.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route turns left and then sharp right. Take care to follow the signs for Route 11. You will pass Slades Farm on your right and cross a wooden bridge over Swaffhem Bulbeck Lode.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route twists left and right and passes another picnic area on your right. Continue across White Fen then along the White Fen droveway.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route turns sharp left onto Fen Road towards the village of Lode.
Continue to follow National Cycle Route 11 - the route brings you into the village of Lode. Follow the road as it bends left and right through the village until you come to a junction with the B1102.
Leave National Cycle Route 11 at this point. Turn right towards Stow cum Quy. After a short distance you will see the entrance to Anglesey Abbey.
Take the turning on your right into the Anglesey Abbey car park. You have arrived at your destination. You will find a restaurant, shop, bike racks and toilet facilities at Anglesey Abbey's Visitor Centre.
