Get the family together this summer holiday and tick off 10 of our wild adventures in South Wales. Go wild at Dyffryn Gardens outdoor play area, become a nature explorer at Dinefwr or camp under the stars in Pembrokeshire. With plenty of things to do, it can be a day out for the whole family.

1. Go on a scavenger hunt at Tredegar House 

This summer, leave no stone unturned as you complete the Tredegar House Scavenger Hunt from 20 July to 3 September. Pick up your map and follow the clues through the gardens in search of age-old apple trees and find the remains of Lord and Lady Tredegar’s banana plants. Head to the stables to find the missing horse shoe and look for the hidden objects in the house. Once you’ve found all the clues, make sure you claim your golden sticker.


2. Play in the Log Stack at Dyffryn Gardens

Hidden in the arboretum you’ll find Dyffryn’s wild play area - The Log Stack, covering over half an acre and built entirely from Dyffryn wood you can jump along stepping stones, build a tepee den and balance along high and low beams.

3. Pick up a tracker pack at Dinefwr 

Dinefwr is an 800 acre natural playground just waiting to be explored this summer. Lace up your adventure boots and grab one of our family tracker packs; inside you’ll find everything you need to track wild animals, hunt for bugs and watch out for birds on the wing.

4. Enjoy a summer of discovery at Llanerchaeron 

You can be sure to have a different experience every day at Llanerchaeron this summer with a different activity on every day. Our balance bikes will be available throughout the holidays for your little cyclists to get started. We will also be bringing back 50 things Fridays – grab a booklet from reception and join our rangers to get started on your adventure.

5. Follow the pollinators trail at Colby Woodland Garden 

Celebrate pollinator power this summer as you take on our nature trail around the Walled Garden and Wildflower Meadow at Colby Woodland Garden. Discover the busy buzz of our resident pollinators, learn more about the important role these creatures play in the environment and our work to safeguard them. Complete the trail to claim your pollinator prize.

6. Head underground at Dolaucothi Gold Mines 

Time for an underground adventure at Dolauocthi Gold Mines. Our underground tours go deep into drift mines where the world's most precious metal was once extracted. In the adits and galleries, tunnels and stopes you'll hear wonderful stories of gold mining and miners going back 2000 years. Safe in the company of our knowledgeable and entertaining guides, and with tours to suit all abilities, this is an experience not to be missed.

7. Capture the changing landscape at Aberdulais

This summer we’re inviting you to take part in our People’s Landscape mural. Using easels provided on site, capture your interpretation of Aberdulais’ dramatic landscape. You can also take part in our brass rubbings activity, with booklets available from the Visitor Centre.

8. Go on a slumber adventure at Tudor Merchant’s House 

Go on a slumber adventure at the Tudor Merchant's House as we reveal how our predecessors would have slept. From nightly rituals to the origins of sleeping tight, our townhouse will tell the story of both the merchant’s family and their servants. Smell Tudor supper in the kitchen, gather herbs from the garden and help us create the ultimate recipe to a good night’s sleep.

9. Sleep under the stars at Gupton Farm 

Make the most of the coast this summer at Gupton Farm, an epic base for family adventures. Take to the water with a guided watersports session at Freshwater West beach, head to the corse for bird watching in the hide and when you’re done exploring for the day, sleep under the stars at our rustic campsite where pitching up is pitching in.

10. Join a wildlife walk at Rhossili 

The vile at Rhossili is bursting with wildlife during the summer as the fields come alive sunflowers, lavender and wildflowers. These spectacular flowers bring with them a host of wildlife including birds, bees and butterflies. This summer we’re inviting you to discover more about Rhossili’s wildlife by joining our ranger led guided walks or simply enjoy a self-led walk through our network of new footpaths.
