Christmas shopping at Winchester City Mill
Winchester City Mill, Britain’s oldest working water mill, nestles on the high street at the heart of this historic city. A much-loved piece of industrial heritage and a popular destination all year round, at Christmas it’s extra special.
Our well-stocked shop caters for everyone, featuring exclusive gifts inspired by our historic places. With every visit, you’re also directly supporting our conservation work to save the Mill’s ancient timber structure.
Our small, but perfectly formed, shop is your first and last port of call on a visit to the Mill. Tucked away in an annex that once formed the stables, we’re open every day from 10am until 4pm. You’ll be able to purchase your presents right up until Christmas Eve, perfect for last minute gift getters.
Great gift ideas
Each December, this cosy, welcoming space is carefully decorated to sparkle with Christmas spirit and provide you with great gift ideas. There are shelves full of classic National Trust Christmas cards and calendars featuring our most beautiful landscapes. Our decorations will brighten any home. Metallic, glittery baubles will add a bit of bling to your tree whilst wooden snowflakes and wreaths bring a sense of tradition.
Discover locally produced lavender products from the team at Long Barn Lavender, just a few miles down the road in Alresford. Surprise the significant ladies in your life with delightfully designed scarves, bags, gloves, umbrellas and a range of other accessories.
Kids will love the cuddly toy otters that we stock to celebrate the rare and elusive creatures now thriving close by in the River Itchen.
Inspired by our places
You’ll find two original product lines exclusively available in National Trust shops, created by our in-house designers.
Our Bohemian Circles collection takes inspiration from Monk’s House in Lewes, East Sussex; home of Virginia Woolf. Enjoy candles and diffusers influenced by the collective spirit of a bohemian lifestyle in the early decades of the 20th century, bold colours and broad brushstrokes will warm your home.
We’re passionate about nature and our contrasting collection, Winter Twilight, celebrates the rolling hills and open spaces of our many outdoor places. Inspired by the twilight hour, a time of day where winter walks are transformed by sunset hues, pale colours and natural textures bring the outdoors in. Discover delightful decorations and delicious food products including the perfect Christmas Pudding.
Food, glorious food
As you’d expect from a working mill, we love good food, and we especially love to bake. You’ll find all your favourites such as biscuits, marzipan fruits and our seasonal jams and curds. You can also pick up bags of our own traditional stoneground wholemeal flour to use in your favourite Christmas recipes, along with a few ideas of our own.
Our recipe cards, available for a small donation, feature great ideas for your Christmas table and you can find products on our shelves to complement each of them. Pick up one of our range of sweet jams to try with our fruit scone recipe or bake a batch of cheese scones to try with our Christmas Day pickle and Boxing Day chutney. What could be better than a freshly baked loaf of soda or wholemeal bread, ready to be enjoyed with our range of honeys or marmalades?
