Barrington's proposed new car park

Autumn colour in the garden

An exciting new proposal to improve infrastructure and access at Barrington Court has begun. It aims to make everyone’s experience of visiting that bit better by reducing potential traffic congestion and getting everyone parked a little quicker.

Unfortunately, in its current form, the car park sometimes struggles to cope with very large number of vehicles.  An added difficultly is that the over-flow parking areas make use of the historic orchard and avenue, which are out of action in bad weather as they get damaged by cars when it's wet.

To help protect the precious environment of Barrington Court and to provide our visitors with a high standard of facilities, a solution needed to be found.

Different options for improving the car park have been explored and, after consultations with various groups and the local community, a plan has now been drawn up to move the main car park to a new, larger location that can accommodate year-round parking.

Below you can view a site plan which outlines the proposed car parking zones.

What’s happening next?

It’s a waiting game at the minute.  The planning application is being submitted in August and once it has been received, people will be able to view it on the South Somerset Council website.

If the application is successful and permission is granted, we have three years to get the project started - so keep checking here for updates, which will be posted as things progress.
