Biddulph Grange Garden Restoration

Monkey Puzzle tree in Pinetum at Biddulph Grange Garden

Works begins in the garden

Your donations have allowed the team to begin essential work on paths, drains and conservation work this winter.

Thanks to everyone buying the Monkey Puzzle pin badges and donating money, we have now been able to start work on replacing the old damaged Victorian drains and lay new paths. This will help us save our trees and shrubs from some of the effects of climate change and changing weather patterns.

The Araucaria (Monkey Puzzle) Parterre has had its paths replaced and the old dead low yew hedges surrounding the young Monkey Puzzle trees removed. New yew has been ordered and will be planted in September. In the meantime, this has given us an opportunity to access the stone edging that surrounds each quarter of the Parterre to conservation clean it and protect it from winter damage.

Work in the oldest part of the garden, Lime Avenue replacing drains and lower levels of the path will take several weeks to complete before fully reopening in February. While this restoration and replacement work continues, there will be other paths that will be worked on but the garden will always be open for you to see the work in progress.
