Walking trail

This is a three mile circular route starting and finishing in the National Trust Car Park. Incorporating the South West Coast Path, with stunning views out to Lundy and returning along the Bridleway.

Start:

From the National Trust car park, look towards the farm and head for the stile, bottom right hand corner across the grass.

Head through the farm entrance gate and across the yard, following the track straight ahead.

At the end of the yard go through the gate and up the track.

At the top of the track turn right and follow the South West Coast Path heading towards Exmansworthy. (For a longer walk/run turn left here and follow the path to Hartland Point).

Vast views out to Lundy

Admire the dramatic view of Shipload Bay from here, where there is a bench. (Note-there is no public access down the steep cliffs to the beach the steps having been destroyed in a storm.) Continue along the cliff top path and stop to look at a sign commemorating the US Airforce Bomber Crash at Eldern Point in 1943.

Upon reaching the Bridleway/Coast path junction, follow the path back through the farm yard to the car park.

Terrain

The route is grassy/gravel South West Coast Path and bridleway (with great views out to Lundy), with a small section on concrete/tarmac surface through the farm yard. Care should be taken through the farm area. The route incorporates eight field gates, six pedestrian gates and two stiles, along with a number of steps. The route can be slippery when wet.  One bench is provided along the route. There maybe grazing cows and sheep on the route. The route is unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs as some sections are a little narrower and the route contains steps and stiles. The route is accessible to walkers, joggers to runners. Dogs are welcome under close control.

Barnstaple, 24 miles (38km) from East Titchberry

By road

From Bude: Take the A39 through Kilkhampton, turn left sign posted Hartland. Follow signs to Hartland Point and Lighthouse, the car park is just before Hartland point on the right.

From Bideford: Take the A39, past Horns Cross and Bucks Cross. Turn right following signs to Hartland. Follow signs to Hartland Point and Lighthouse, the car park is just before Hartland point on the right.

By foot

On the South West Coast Path between Hartland Quay and Clovelly.

By bicycle

Directions same as by road, please be aware these are busy main roads.
