Visiting Buckland Abbey: what you need to know

The gardens and estate walks are open to explore at the weekends, the house is currently closed until Saturday 19th February. You'll no longer need to pre-book to visit. In this article you will find everything you need to know before you visit.

Staying safe at Buckland Abbey

If you’re showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or if you've been in contact with anyone that has the virus in the last 14 days, please don’t visit. 

We are continuing to support the government Test and Trace programme. Please scan your QR code at the car park upon entry.

Arrival and parking

Parking is free. Once parked, please head straight to Visitor Welcome to book in.

Disabled parking is located in the main car park.

Face coverings are required in our shop and on our buggy (unless exempt), they are recommended in enclosed and crowded areas. 


What's open?

The estate walks, gardens and shop are open at the weekends. The Abbey is currently closed until Saturday 19th February, the whole of the estate is closed during the week. 

The Ox Yard Cafe is fully open with indoor seating and takeaway options available.

Dogs are also welcome inside the Cafe. 


Buggy Service

The buggy is run by our fantastic volunteer team. We work hard to make sure we can run the service at all times, but there might be occasions where the buggy is not available. Please call the office prior to your visit to see if the buggy is available that day, especially if it is essential to your day out with us. 

Face coverings are now required on our buggy (unless exempt).

The buggy can be picked up from the main car park.

The last buggy run is at 3:30pm. 

Bringing your dog

Dogs on a lead are welcome on the estate walks. Only Assistance dogs in the garden.


  • Blue badge spaces available. Car park closes at 5.00pm. Car park 150 yards from garden, sloping route
  • Adapted toilet next to main toilets
  • Buckland is on steep slopes with some uneven paths
  • Wheelchair accessible path to gardens
  • Ground floor of the house is wheelchair accessible.
  • No wheelchair loan available
  • Mobile signal is very poor across the estate. Some signal in the visitor car park


Changing your booking

If your plans change and you can’t make your timeslot, you can easily change or cancel your booking. We really appreciate you doing this as soon as possible so the tickets can be made available for other visitors. 

If you’re a member, the option to cancel or change your booking can be found in your confirmation email by selecting ‘view and manage your order online' underneath your order summary.
