Carrick-a-Rede - The north coast's only Dark Sky Discovery Site
Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge site is proud to be classified as one of the best places in Northern Ireland for star-gazing.
The Carrick-a-Rede and Larrybane site was granted ‘Dark Sky Discovery’ status in 2014 and is currently one of only two sites in Northern Ireland, the other being Oxford Island on the shores of Lough Neagh.
Dark Sky Discovery Sites are a nationwide network of places that provide great views and which are accessible to everyone. Dark Sky places are areas or sites that have been officially recognised for their low levels of light pollution and good public access.
While visitors are encourage to star gaze by themselves at anytime of the year, periodically Carrick-a-Rede hosts special star gazing evenings. We are very grateful for the support we've received from the Northern Ireland Amateur Astronomy Society, who bring equipment and are on site for star-gazing advice for these special events.
