A dog-friendly day out at Claife Viewing Station and on the west shore of Windermere

A couple and their dog at Claife Viewing station in autumn

Claife Viewing Station and the west shore of Windermere are great places for you and your four-legged friend to explore.

The lakeshore path between Wray Castle and Claife Viewing station is a safe, car-free walk that’s bound to set your dog’s tail wagging. With lots of opportunities for pooches to paddle, it will soon become everyone’s favourite route.

Where paws are permitted

At Claife Viewing Station you will all be rewarded with stunning views across Windermere from the first floor platform. The hard-waring stone and steel materials of the Viewing Station are super dog-friendly and paws are permitted everywhere.

Dogs are also welcome in the café in the Courtyard where you can buy tasty dog treats and they’ll appreciate the refreshing water bowl. There are even dog-friendly holiday cottages nearby that you can walk from and to, for a getaway that all family members, however many legs they have, can enjoy.

Follow the Canine Code

Please follow the Canine Code and help us keep the countryside a safe, healthy and enjoyable place for you and your dog, other visitors, wildlife and livestock:

  • Take the lead: help reduce the chance of your pup disturbing livestock and wildlife by keeping them on a lead.
  • Scoop that poop: bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.
  • Paws for thought: look out for information signs and take extra care on high paths.
  • Be on the ball: not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.

Different restrictions apply at each of our places and at different times of year, so we'd really apreciate it if you were a responsible dog owner.
