La Famille - a new family bike ride
We've launched a new bike ride, aimed at all the family. You're invited to take part as a parent and child team on Sunday 18 September and tackle the routes through the heart of the south Lakes.
Starting at Claife Viewing Station on Windermere’s west shore, there are two routes to choose from, taking in some great family-friendly National Trust places along the way.
Everyone will start the ride at Claife Viewing Station near the ferry landing on Windermere’s west shore. Heading north on the lakeside track to Wray Castle, you’ll go up the ‘Col De Strawberry Bank’. Families can then take a break and explore the outdoor play area or re-fuel at the castle café.
For those following this 14km route, you’ll retrace your wheel tracks back along the west shore to Claife Viewing Station.
This longer 18km route will continue on to Hawkshead via the challenging ‘Col De Tock How’. Here you can re-fill your water bottles at the National Trust corner shop in the village. Then you'll be on the home straight back to Claife Viewing Station along the road, with a final stop at Hill Top if you've got the engery for exploring the garden.
A well earned reward
Celebrate your return with a BBQ in the Courtyard at Claife Viewing Station and collect your finishers medal.
" Sportives are so popular with cyclists today but we want to ensure that families have the chance to have a go too, in a non-competitive environment."
If families would like to collect sponsorship for their efforts on the challenge, any money raised will go towards work on the outdoor play trail at Wray Castle. Entry costs £20 for Adults and £10 for a child.
