Be a part of our archaeology project

Sign up for our Family Muck In Day on Sunday 8th May and help get the site of Hill Cottage ready for the archaeologists to begin digging.

Volunteers collecting tree seeds

During this family day out with a difference you will be working as a team to clear leaves and small branches from the ruins of the cottage. Children can learn how to use loppers and bow saws and enjoy being in the outdoors doing something very different.

You will be joined by our team of staff and archaeologists who will be able to tell you all about the project so far and give you the inside story on what we'll be doing next. You might even get a chance to try some archaeological techniques out for yourselves.

The event runs from 11am - 4pm and whilst places are free they are limited, booking online is essential. We would recommend the event for families with children aged 6 and over, you will need to bring a packed lunch and be prepared to be outdoors (and twenty minutes walk from a toilet) all day.
