Caring about recording at Coughton

Photographing our collection at Coughton Court, Warwickshire

We do a check on our store rooms every few years to ensure that everything is where it should be, and that the condition of the collection is stable.

We’re currently combining this check with another task – improving the photography held on our collections database.

We have a large ceramics collection, more than we can currently have on display, so some of it lives in storage. At the moment, some ceramics records have poor photographs, or no pictures at all – so Amanda is working through our stored ceramics to take well-lit, high quality photographs to add to the database.

The set that Amanda is taking pictures of is an eighteenth-century Royal Worcester dessert service. The plates have a beautiful deep blue border and fine gilding to the surface, so gloves have to be used to handle it to avoid tarnishing the gilt work.
